June 22, 2026

The Armenian delegation participated in the 11th session of the General Assembly of the UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in Paris and delivered speeches.

In her speech, Naira Kilichyan, Head of the Intangible Cultural Heritage Preservation Division of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport, emphasized that the Republic of Armenia attaches special importance to cooperation between the state and civil society in the safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage, regarding it as one of the fundamental pillars of an efficient and sustainable cultural policy. She also noted that, as part of its open and transparent cultural policy, the ESCS Ministry annually provides financial support through grant programs to cultural non-governmental organizations implementing projects aimed at preservation, transmitting, and promoting intangible cultural heritage in local communities.

Aram Hakobyan, Permanent Delegate of the Republic of Armenia to UNESCO, also stressed that safeguarding intangible cultural heritage is a priority of Armenia's cultural policy. He underscored the significance of understanding the needs of communities and ensuring the protection of their cultural heritage.

During the session, the Armenian “Culture for Sustainable Development” NGO was accredited as a non-governmental organization providing advisory support to the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, in recognition of its professional expertise in the field.

It is the second Armenian NGO to receive this prestigious international accreditation. Back in 2020, the “Hazarashen Armenian Centre for Ethnological Studies” NGO was granted the same status.
