RA Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Artur Martirosyan participated in Canada Day event celebrated in Armenia, delivering congratulatory remarks. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada to the Republic of Armenia Andrew Turner, ambassadors accredited to Armenia, diplomats, and other officials attended the event.
Congratulating the attendees on the occasion of Canada Day, Artur Martirosyan highly appreciated the friendly relations and effective partnership between Armenia and Canada, noting that they are based on shared civilizational values, mutual respect, and common interests.
As stated by the ESCS Deputy Minister, since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and Canada 35 years ago, the two countries have built a steadily developing partnership in human rights, including fundamental cultural and educational freedoms, as well as in a range of other fields.
“Our stable and strong relations cover the political, cultural, educational, socio-economic, and security sectors, encompassing numerous important initiatives that bring tangible benefits to both our countries. These ties undoubtedly gained new momentum with the opening of Canada's resident Embassy in Yerevan in 2023,” Artur Martirosyan stated.
The ESCS Deputy Minister also underlined that it was a great honour for Armenia to host Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and Minister of Foreign Affairs Anita Anand in Yerevan in May this year during the 8th Summit of the European Political Community. He emphasized that the visit provided an opportunity to address issues of mutual interest and identify a number of practical outcomes that will further enrich the bilateral agenda, particularly by advancing cooperation in the fields of education, science, culture, youth, and sport.
Artur Martirosyan also placed special emphasis on expanding cooperation between the two countries in the field of education:
“Today, many Armenian students pursue higher education at Canadian universities. I am particularly pleased to note that this year the Government of Quebec has allocated fully funded scholarship places for citizens of Armenia, enabling Armenian students to benefit from one of the world's most advanced education systems. I am also pleased to note that we are currently exploring opportunities for cooperation with several other leading Canadian universities,” he said.
The Deputy Minister further highlighted the major contribution of the Armenian community in Canada to strengthening Armenia–Canada relations and fostering a strong bilateral partnership.
