COP17: Sports Day at the MoESCS Pavilion
October 22, 2026
In the Green Zone of COP17 today was dedicated to sports at the pavilion of the ESCS Ministry. The pavilion showcased programs aimed at promoting healthy lifestyles, encouraging physical activity and developing grassroots sports, as well as international competitions held in Armenia and major championships scheduled for 2027.
Minister Zhanna Andreasyan visited the pavilion, familiarized herself with the programs on display and spoke with visitors. Director of the Sports Management Centre Khoren Zargaryan accompanied the Minister.
The visitors learned about Armenia’s experience in organizing major international sporting events, including the Tour of Armenia, an international professional multi-stage cycling race held in September, which brought together 16 teams from 10 countries. The pavilion also highlighted major sporting events scheduled to take place in Armenia in 2027, including the 10th International Francophone Games, the World Weightlifting Championships, the European Artistic Gymnastics Championships and other international competitions.
The pavilion also featured sporthol, a sport involving spinning tops. Visitors had the opportunity to try spinning a top, and many registered to take part in testing at a later stage. The first clubs dedicated to the sport will open in November.
Minister Zhanna Andreasyan also met with schoolchildren visiting the Green Zone, who shared their experiences and achievements in the Prime Minister’s Cup amateur sports tournaments. Ninth-grade students from Arazap Secondary School in Armavir Province reported that they had secured third place in the School Volleyball League tournament held under the auspices of the Prime Minister last year. They used the prize money to improve their school’s sports facilities and purchase new equipment.
The pavilion of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport at the Karen Demirchyan Sports and Concert Complex, in the Green Zone of COP17, is open from 19 to 30 October. The next day dedicated to sports will be held on 27 October.
