“Faith and Identity: Relics from the History Museum of Armenia”. Temporary Exhibition at the Byzantine Museum

October 13, 2026

The temporary exhibition entitled “Faith and Identity: Relics from the History Museum of Armenia” has opened at the Byzantine Museum of the Archbishop Makarios III Foundation in Nicosia. It will run until 9 April 2027.

Organized with the support of the ESCS Ministry, the exhibition explores the shared Christian heritage of Armenia and Cyprus and the historical and cultural ties between the two countries.

Four exceptional artefacts selected from the collection of the History Museum of Armenia showcase different facets of Armenian culture: an 18th-century silver pectoral cross preserved at the Church of Saints Peter and Paul in Yerevan; a glazed ceramic plate from Dvin dating to the 12th–13th centuries; a 10th–11th-century bronze censer discovered during excavations at the Church of Gagkashen in Ani; and a silver half-dram minted under King Levon I (1198–1219) of the Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia.

A special place in the exhibition is reserved for an Armenian Gospel manuscript originating from the Monastery of Saint Makar. With the consent of the Armenian Prelacy of Cyprus, the manuscript is on permanent display at the Byzantine Museum and served as the inspiration for the exhibition.

The exhibition has been organized through cooperation between the History Museum of Armenia and the Byzantine Museum of the Archbishop Makarios III Foundation, at the initiative of the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in Cyprus and with the participation of the Armenian Prelacy of Cyprus. It is being held with the support of CDA Group, Arsen Theofanidis LLC, VISA Concord, and the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Armenia in Cyprus.
