On the sidelines of the 19th Council of Europe Conference of Ministers responsible for Sport, held in the Principality of Monaco, RA ESCS Minister Zhanna Andreasyan had a meeting with Pedro Dias, Portugal’s Secretary of State for Sport at the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs.

The parties discussed opportunities to expand cooperation between the two countries in the field of sport

They referred to the prospects for exchanging expertise in sports governance, the development of sports infrastructure, athlete training and the organization of international sporting events.

Zhanna Andreasyan also highlighted the importance of hosting the 2027 Francophonie Games in Armenia, emphasizing the country’s commitment to complying with all requirements for organizing major international sporting events, including ensuring the highest safety standards.

The meeting also addressed preparations for the 2029 FIFA U-20 World Cup, scheduled to take place in Armenia, with particular focus on the construction and development of stadiums and related infrastructure, as well as their management.

The Minister highlighted Portugal's experience in this field. The parties agreed to explore best practices and expand cooperation in this regard.

Other matters of mutual interest were also considered.
