New Revelations in Amberd

June 29, 2026

Interesting findings have been uncovered during the ongoing restoration and cleaning works at the "Amberd Fortress" Historical-Cultural Reservation. In particular, a human skeleton was discovered on the outer side of the fortress's inner towered wall, approximately one meter east of the central section. Nearly 90 percent of the bones are intact, with only the finger bones missing. Based on the dentition, it can be inferred that the individual was young.

The discoveries do not end there. during the cleaning process, remnants of a "tama" game (similar to checkers)—which serves as evidence of a presumed medieval pastime—were also found, along with an exceptionally valuable coin of Queen Tamar.

Cleaning and excavation works continue at Amberd, revealing new details about the history and life of the fortress.
