Armenia's team of school students won two silver and three bronze medals at the 56th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO), held in Bucaramanga, Colombia, from 4 to 12 July.

The Olympiad consisted of theoretical and experimental stages and brought together more than 400 participants from 91 countries.

Members of the Armenian team were Gor Hovsepyan, a 12th grade student, and Edgar Baghmanyan, an 11th grade student at the A. Shahinyan Physics and Mathematics Specialized School; 12th grade students Garnik Gavaljyan and Emil Harutyunyan, at the National Polytechnic University of Armenia (NPUA) High School; and Samvel Harutyunyan, a 12th grade student at Quantum College. Gor Hovsepyan and Garnik Gavaljyan were awarded silver medals, while Edgar Baghmanyan, Emil Harutyunyan and Samvel Harutyunyan received bronze medals.

The team leads included Bilor Kurghinyan, Chair of the National Physics Olympiad Committee and a teacher at the A. Shahinyan Physics and Mathematics Specialized School, and Hovsep Karapetyan, Physics Subject Coordinator at the A. Shahinyan Physics and Mathematics Specialized School and the NPUA High School. Artyom Gasparyan, Physics Subject Coordinator at the same schools, attended the Olympiad as an observer.

For reference, at the 55th International Physics Olympiad, held in Paris, France, Armenia's team had won two bronze medals and two honourable mentions.
