As part of the working visit to Paris, RA Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Zhanna Andreasyan also had a meeting with UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Education Qun Chen.

RA Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Arthur Martirosyan and Armenia's Permanent Representative to UNESCO Aram Hakobyan also attended the meeting.

Congratulating Qun Chen on assuming the office of UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Education, Zhanna Andreasyan wished him every success in his new role and thanked him for the opportunity to meet. She emphasized that Armenia highly appreciates its longstanding and productive partnership with UNESCO in the field of education and expressed confidence that this cooperation will continue to advance in support of quality education, inclusion, and innovation.

Presenting the progress of educational reforms in Armenia, the ESCS Minister, in particular, touched upon the sector of higher education and science, noting that the changes are aimed at closer integration of higher education and science, the development of scientific research activities at universities, and the formation of sustainable cooperation between the sectors. The UNESCO Assistant Director-General commended the comprehensive reforms being implemented in Armenia, underscoring their significance for enhancing the competitiveness of the country's higher education and research systems.

The parties also addressed the “Education for Peace” resolution, recently adopted by consensus by the United Nations General Assembly. Zhanna Andreasyan reaffirmed Armenia's commitment to a policy of peace and emphasized the pivotal role of education in promoting peaceful societies, mutual understanding, and sustainable development.

The meeting also focused on the development of STEM education and opportunities to expand Armenia–UNESCO cooperation in this area. The Minister presented Armenia's achievements, particularly the country's high level of women's participation in STEM fields, noting that Armenia's experience may also be interesting for the international partners.

Zhanna Andreasyan also presented Armenia's cooperation with OpenAI, noting that two AI factories are already operating in the country, while a third is expected to become operational by the end of the year. She further highlighted plans to strengthen artificial intelligence research at Yerevan State University, to foster innovation and prepare highly qualified specialists in the field.

The parties also exchanged views on the application of ethical principles alongside the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence. The UNESCO Assistant Director-General highly praised Armenia's consistent approach to ensuring the ethical development and deployment of AI, noting that UNESCO is likewise implementing extensive research and programs in this area.

It was noted that Armenia is regarded as an important partner within a number of UNESCO initiatives and research programs.

The meeting also addressed various other issues of bilateral interest.
