Zhanna Andreasyan receives newly appointed Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt Amal Afifi

ESCS Minister Zhanna Andreasyan received the newly appointed Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the Republic of Armenia, Amal Afifi.

ESCS Deputy Minister Arthur Martirosyan, President of Egypt University and Professor of Armenian Studies Mohamed Refaat Al-Imam, and Egyptian writer, novelist, and television presenter Dr. Safaa El-Naggar, attended the meeting.

ESCS Minister Zhanna Andreasyan congratulated Ambassador Afifi on her appointment and wished her a successful diplomatic mission. She expressed confidence that the Ambassador's tenure would contribute to further strengthening Armenia–Egypt bilateral relations and to the implementation of new initiatives, particularly in the fields of education, science, culture, and youth.

Ambassador Afifi thanked the Minister for the warm reception and reaffirmed her commitment to making every effort to further enhance cooperation, particularly in the cultural sector. In this regard, she presented the Minister with the program of cultural events scheduled to be held in Egypt in the near future.

Minister Zhanna Andreasyan also highlighted the activities of the distinguished Egyptian intellectuals in the delegation, viewing the strengthening of ties with them as an important opportunity to strengthen friendship between the two peoples. She particularly commended Professor Mohamed Refaat Al-Imam for his longstanding contribution to Armenian studies and to the research and promotion of the history of Armenia and the Armenian community in Egypt, stressing that his scholarly work has made a significant contribution to strengthening the cultural dialogue between Armenia and Egypt.

For many years, Professor Al-Imam has supported the activities of the Centre for Armenian Studies at Cairo University and served as Editor-in-Chief of the Arabic-language Armenian studies journal “AREG”, which has played a major role in promoting knowledge about the Armenian people among Arabic-speaking audiences.

Dr. Safaa El-Naggar, an Egyptian writer, novelist, and television presenter, also presented her work and professional activities.

The parties also noted the potential for cooperation within the framework of the International Book Festival by implementing translation programs.

The meeting addressed other issues of bilateral interest.
